Renting a sports car: 5 useful tips

We all know them from action-packed Hollywood movies, from social media, from advertising or from Formula 1: sports cars are a metal dream come true for many car lovers. But have you also played with the idea of driving one of these horsepower monsters once yourself? There are quite a few car rental companies where you can rent a sports car.

At mach2cars in Stuttgart, we also offer you numerous fast-as-an-arrow models with which you can enjoy your weekend excursion or a joyride. Sometimes you can rent Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches or Mercedes-Benz from us. Below we provide 5 helpful tips on what to consider when renting a sports car in Stuttgart.

Renting a sports car: 5 useful tips

1. What are the conditions when I rent a sports car?

Essentially, there are two points that you need to meet with almost any car rental company. These are:

  1. You must be at least 21 years old. This age limit is especially true for mach2cars – many companies require you to be 25 years of age or older.
  2. You must be in possession of a valid driver’s license for at least 2 years.

Requirements fulfilled? Perfect, then on to the next step.

2. What is allowed and what is not allowed with a sports car?

Before you start, you should clarify in advance what restrictions there are for the use and driving of the sports car. Race tracks are usually not allowed. Often a safety-related briefing is given before the start – so you are informed which functions but also pitfalls a certain model has. In any case, you should check the terms and conditions of your contract carefully in advance – this will save both sides unnecessary trouble and discussions.

Also, the issue of second drivers should be clarified. Often you are not alone on the road with the high-horsepower high-caliber cars. Be sure to include a second person in the contract – otherwise there is no insurance coverage.

3. Insurance, deposit and deductible for rented sports cars

Rental cars registered in Germany must be registered in the so-called self-driving rental insurance. So make sure it is included in the contract and make sure insurance coverage is provided. Clarify also, how high the deductible is set. Say: the money that you have to pay out of pocket in the event of a claim.

In addition to the rent, a deposit must always be paid. This is often in the amount of the deductible and ensures that the amount owed is available in the event of a claim.

4. Extra mileage wanted?

When renting vehicles, you usually have a mileage limit. If you exceed these – especially for sports car models – it can quickly become costly. So estimate in advance how many miles you’ll be driving and, if in doubt, sign up for a higher mileage allowance.

5. The vehicle handover – be vigilant!

The handover of the sports car is an important moment in which you should be particularly attentive. Is the vehicle also as good as new or are the seats already worn out? Are there scratches on the rims or other damages, no matter how small? Be sure to record them with your smartphone camera and have them included in the contract. This provides clarity for both sides and prevents unnecessary legal disputes afterwards.
